Just got my Zorki MIR from Fedka, and I'm tickled pink! And I'm also very happy that I can post that fact here, and have people who understand, rather than sneer because I have an older rangefinder camera which is totally, and I mean TOTALLY, mechanical.:D

It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how things worked, and I'm going to load it up with some color print film (I can get it developed at Walmart) and go out tomorrow on a photo shoot around town. (Well, I suppose Dillwyn, Virginia doesn't quite qualify, since it's five miles from the middle of nowhere) But I can get to Charlottesville, and noodle around there.

Thanks to Yuri and Fedka for wonderful service and a really neat camera! I've got a FED-2-b and an Industar-61LD, 55mm/2.8 on order next. What a way to build a collection!

A Leica I know it's not, but I'm going to have a ball anyway.

With best regards to all.

I do like the thrill of a "new" camera!
While you are at Walmart, you might look for some Kodak BW400CN film--black and white film that uses color chemistry. Good luck with it!

Which lens did you get with the MIR?

This is interesting. You really have to start shooting with a fully mechanical camera to understand the benefits. I never understood this until I started shooting with my Retina IIa. I feared I would miss all those helpful, nifty little things that seems to make photography easier. Instead it was a complete liberation to get ridd of all those things. It felt so good!! Just me, some glass, cogwheels and springs, no battery, no electronics, nothing :)

Anyway loads of fun with your new camera!

Some of us started that way - and it is such a relief to get back to it - especially with all the mystery and history behind ex-USSR cameras .

Have fun .

Good for you! - it's a nice feeling to get something like this, that produces the goods, and know that the next card statement won't bring tears!;)
Dave.
