got the R3a today

Hey Doug,

It makes perfect sense. For me, I just meter the same place quickly after a shot if I want to continue or switch it to manual quickly. I can't be bothered to keep that thumb down. I suppose after a while it's just all muscle memory though - whatever works don't need fixin.

Rover, I'll take your advice and apply it in a persistently friendly way. And then I'll offer to take that M7 off his hands (in a persistently friendly way).

I'd snag that M7 for a bit, and press one of those memo recorders against it (my phone has one) and record the sound of the shutter that way (IN CONTACT), probably at 1/60 or 1/125. Then I'd do the above (playing it back over and over at good volume) loudly. Either that or else find a 20$ folder with a preset shutter- they are rather quiet in comparison to a Leica. Then look over at HIM when he fires off his comparitive "monster noise" shutter...

Does anybody know what's up with R3a distribution in the US? A guy at Samy's in LA said they won't be carrying it because there aren't any distributors....

The official distributors are Cameraquest and Photo Village. Samy's may not be carrying the CV cameras because they don't want to compete with the distributors, who are also retailers. Kind of a strange situation, but there are formal US distributors of CV cameras for sure.

Brought my R3a out in the back woods with me this weekend. Weather was sunny, 20 degrees, with lots of snow cover. The camera was cold most of the time, got bounced around a lot in the backpack, and performed perfectly well. I'll post some photos when I get the film back from processing. Got some nice shots from the peak at Hedgehog Nubble with a 360degree view of all the mountains, valleys, and lakes around the area. Here is a shot taken with a P&S digital I had with me as a preview.
