So it appears that the back panel on the on/off switch is starting to come undone. Even if I pull it a little bit I can start to see electronic innards inside. Question is, is this a common problem for GR1s?

The camera still operates perfectly while shooting and I haven't had any issues turning it on/off but I'm worried that one day it's going to pop out and snap in my pocket or my bag.

Exactly what happened to my GR1 years ago. The panel came off completely which was surprising as I don't give my gear rough treatment. Had to send it away to Johnsons the Ricoh distributor here in the UK. Cost me £70!

One of my GR1 bodies has the exact same problem. The switch cover came off and is now lost. Camera still works great without it. I use a small coin to touch the contacts to turn the camera on and off 😀 Don't laugh, it works.

So I'm not the only one who's having this problem... Wish Ricoh secured both sides with a set of small screws or something instead of relying on some small plastic nub.

Very common with the GR1-series cameras. Before I broke mine by dropping it, I fixed this by unscrewing the left screw, cleaning the inside of the plastic bit that comes off and then use super glue on both the right and left side of the plastic bit. While drying put the screw back in.

Not the prettiest of solutions if some super glue oozes out, but hey now it stays in place.

The thought of super glue has crossed my mind but I've always wondered, what happens if it needs to get serviced and they need to take that part out?

I had this happen to my GR1v and I contacted CRIS camera. They were able to ship a new on off switch and window (with screw!) for something like $17.00 plus shipping. Installation is as easy as unscrewing the screw, install the new panel, tighten screw. Couldn't be easier.

Both the front panel (that houses viewfinder, AF sensor and flash) and ON/OFF panel fell off my GR1v after prolonged use. I use tape to hold it together.

Makes cleaning the viewfinder much easier though...

somewhat related question, I cannot turn my GR1v on for some reason. When I put a battery in it'll turn on and I can press the power button to turn off. But it won't turn back on when I press the power button. Anyone know where I can get this fixed?

Well, the small plastic hinge thing on the right side of the panel just snapped off last night and now it's only being held down by the screw on the left side. I'd buy a replacement part myself but I'm not even sure where to start looking since I don't really know the name of the part..

A camera repairman I used to hang around with would have just glued a new nub on it. Maybe you can find some suitable material to do this.
