Grain and sodium bisulfite

Hi everybody

I read that a small amount of sodium bisulfite solution (9%?) to the developer can reduce grain. Do you have an opinion about this? What is your recipe?

It does work. I haven't personally done this, but I know photographers that have. About 9% is correct.

My first question is, 9% bisulfite added to which developer? D76, Rodinal or PMK?

A 9% solution of sodium bisulfite added to Edwal's FG7 is recommended. You'll need to experiment with developers. Don't expect miracles.

And film speed as well, D76 1:1 is the standard dev for grain, speed and actuance, vary anything and you have swings and roundabouts.

Sodium Sulphite is what you need not BiSulphite.....

add between 7% and 12% solution to the distilled water to make the developer dilution you want.....be careful because BiSulphite will soften and reticulate the emulsion......don
