grainy highlights in scan

Hi

I made my first scans this weekend with an old Minolta Dimage Multi I picked up on eBay.

The skies and highlights have come out really grainy... the grain doesnt appear on the film - it being Velvia 50...

The neg holder has sheets of anti-newton-ring ground glass, I wonder if the texture that appears is the texture on the glass, not the film? How does one overcome this?

Hello,
it is kind of difficult to see any grain on such a small image.
Though I can't help you anyway, I am seeing grainy highlights on my 400-800-1600 iso black-and-white images in highlights and I am fine with it.

Will be interesting to read answers.

I have the same grain on highlights from scans made with the Epson V200.
Guess it will vanish if we would use a scanner with new technology...

Give Vuescan a try, it helped my Canon trannie scans dramatically, although I can't get decent scans from my negs from anything...

Are you scanning at a high resolution?

I get grain aliasing on some films (like the W/A 200) when scanning at a low resolution. You might try scanning at max resolution and then sizing down.
