Grayson Perry: Playing to the Gallery ...

I found it interesting. I listened on my way to work. The questions were (mostly) intelligent, too.

I look forward to the other lectures.

Actually, I normally find the Reith Lectures pretty unbearable. They're often a bit contrived, as if people feel they have to conform to some mistaken idea of a Reithian ideal. And the fact that one of the high points of intellectual broadcasting is hosted by Sue Lawley, who is embarrassingly thick, does grate.

Yes. The final question was interesting - people becoming angry about art - and his answer equally interesting and thought provoking.

Can I recommend 'A brief history of irony' via the BBC Radio 4 Documentary podcast. I thought it too was excellent.

Bring back Nationwide eh? She'd fit nicely on The One Show too.

I caught the broadcast this morning, for the first time, and have to say I found it quite interesting though couldn't shake the feeling that the audience had the same sort of feel as those invited along to "An audience with..." Nothing was going to be too strenuous or controversial for Grayson to have to deal with...certainly not the question of whether he 'makes pots for the poor!'

... yes I was a little uneasy, but he sounded genuine enough I thought ... I agree about Sue Lawley though

In just a handful of words, you've revealed a good deal about your age...;) As indeed I now have, about mine!:D

:D:D:D (If there were a ROFL smiley available on this forum, I'd have used it here!)

Yes... precisely what I thought!:)

I caught it this morning, I felt that Perry fell into anecdotes rather than making actual points in the main body of his talk.

some of the questions were pretty good though, specifically the "people getting angry at art" (Miranda Sawyer I believe?) one.

I'm interested to hear the other installments though.

I'm still pretty much still with him ... the photography bit was interesting " ... if they're smiling its probably not art"

I felt that too.
He seemed to have decided on the points that he wished to make but was unable to provide any collaborative evidence.
Which is why he had to resort to anecdotes and asking his mate at Lancaster and Martin Parr what they thought.
