I love digging into the trenches and reading blogs from fellow photo-takers. I stumbled across this little gem this evening, which I think hits the mark on many points.
I had the good fortune of being a magazine junkie which transitioned into a book collecting junkie, so at the beginning of my enchantment with photography, I amassed a nice stack of hardcovers with works from some of the greats. I pored over them for hours, studying each image, page by page. It was wonderful.
Anyway, this article contains some great words of wisdom:

Very good tips, especially about editing.
I find letting two weeks pass after a shoot before I make an initial selection, it's easier to sifts some chaff.
If I let six months pass, I might find out: 1) how I've been screwing up / been lazy; 2) if I'm lucky, I could locate a couple of good ones.
