Many of you have probably seen this one but for those new to Rangefinders or for those not having seen this book I can really recommend it:

Rangefinder - Equipment, history & techniques
by Roger Hicks & Frances Schultz

Great pictures and text !

It maybe because I'm not that new to rfs, but I thought it was somewhat lacking in substance. It probably just covers too much in too little space, ie. not as much detail as I would have liked.

Yeah, it is a bit lightweight on details. Other the other hand, it's an excellent survey book on a wide range of rangefinder cameras.

It's great reading in parts. I love the accessories chapter (oh my, that lens turret). Sadly, Roger's bias against the 50mm lens is a real disappointment for me when we consider the vast array of great RF 50s.

Frances and Roger put togther a nice book with lots of info. I flip through it as a reference every now and then.

I have a copy too. Bought it when I was already well into rf cameras. Found it lacking in depth. As a beginners' book it's OK.

Roger used to hang out here for a while. He's a strong minded person with his own thoughts, ideas and convictions; and sadly took the critical masses here rather hard.

To me the beauty of the book was the lack of details.... it is a nice, personal, overview over RF´s that covers most formats, lenses and accessories. For me who for sure know a lot about RF´s but only having focused on 35 mm film and a few brands like Nikon, Bessa and Yashica it gave a good overview over the total field.... I also like the photos.... just great fun to read!

For those here at RFF not having grown up with all different formats and for those being new to film and RF´s this must be a great book to read!

I just finished their B&W Handbook: The Ultimate ... book. I like it, enough detail without making me keel over from my chair.
