Who knew?! Myself, I was busy as a high schooler at that time protesting the war effort and other stuff that i won't mention here while this incredibly brave and tenacious soul was jumping out of planes to capture what would scare the hell out of most of us. Hats off to Catherine Leroy!
Maggieo- very nice Cuba Pics on M9 Alive and well.... You obviously engaged your subjects! Nice work.

Awesome!! As a vietnam era vet, I have seen some pictures, but hers are some of the most amazing "right there" reporting, and with such humanity.
Be sure to watch the vid!

Thank you, David! I learned a lot on that trip, especially getting in close and extending the moment to get the right shot.

DwF, thank you so much for posting about her and her work. What an incredible woman... her efforts might well serve as an example of courage, grit, fortitude, bravery for all of us in these days of the puerile, infantalized, whining of others.

Awesome photos. Going to have to hunt down the shots of her captors that they mentioned now!

I picked up two of her books- Under Fire and God Cried. As expected, they're exceptional.

More relevant to this forum: does anyone know what cameras she's carrying in the last picture in the NYT article? The one where she's about to parachute? Looks like an M2 for the rear camera. Not sure what the first camera is. It has a large rewind knob, so maybe a Canon 7s?

One in front is a Nikon SP. I've seen other images of her carrying one.

An amazing woman.
I referenced her in a play of mine, which featured a female war photographer, Hidden in the Sand.
Her work is well worth a long look.
