Hello everyone,
I have been lurking here for quite a while, and finally decided to register because I've finally gone and done it...I bought an FSU RF. I read an awful lot and following a lot of recommendations I bought a beautiful Industar 61 L/D attached to a really ugly lens cap: a FED 5V. And if it isn't the most homely camera ever 😀 Not only that, but I bought one from alex-photo which is, what my wife charitably called, 'streetwalker' red.

Hey, I figure that if I'm going to carry around the ugliest RF ever, I ought to make it stand out even more!!!

Now, if I can just find an unmangled Jupiter 9, I should be set for life.

And so he hurls himself headlong down into the world of FSU rangefinders and GAS!!!

Welcome to the club.

Hmmm, I have a J9 I may be convinced to part with. Truth be told, I have never used it. I got it from another RFF member, who also had not used it in his short ownership of it. The glass is very clean and the barrel, well solid but has seen use.

Truth be told, after cruising the FSU forum, I'm pretty certain that the slope is going to get steeper and steeper 😀

Believe it or not, the FED 5 is a replacement for a Canonet. Our house was robbed a couple of days ago and when the security system went off, the thieves had just enough time to take a digicam (no big deal) and my beautiful QL17 GIII. To be quite honest, what a couple of kids will to with a 30 year old RF is quite beyond my comprehension. Heck, the mercury battery in it was a bigger loss! In a fit of insanity I decided to turn away from Japan and face the FSU.

From what I can glean from the forum, it will only get worse!

A stupid newbie question though...

How exactly do LTM lenses stay put? Does one just screw them on and hope that they do not unscrew themselves through use? Or do they lock down somehow?

No. You just screw 'em in. I have not yet heard of one being so loose that it fell off the camera! 😀 Welcome to the forum Kent!

Welcome Max! Sorry to hear about your Canon. For me it was the loss of a dear EOS that drove me to the Dark Side .... huh-mmmmm ... I mean ... that led me to these wonderful FSU RFs. And actually, I'm enjoying taking photos more now than I have in 20 years.

Yep, screw on, screw off. Hey, for guys like me, the simpler, the better. And the skin can be changed with quite a variety of options. There are no stupid newbie questions ... however, I have been known to throw out some stupid answers sometimes, so reader beware!

And by the way, Max/Rover, if that J9 doesn't interest you, I wouldn't mind having a look at it ... "second dibs" as they said in the village of my youth.
