Anyone else's grip become unglued? Has anyone else replaced it with leather? Who would do custom work like that?

The grip on the front right side of my early-model R-D 1 eventually worked its way loose. I didn't want to lose the convenient padded bulge in it by replacing it with a flat piece of leather (or whatever) so I reinstalled the original grip. To stick it down, I used a 3M Adhesive Transfer Gun (ATG) that we had at the office, but strong double-sided tape will work.
An excellent tip from Rich Cutler's excellent R-D 1 website (click):

When putting the rubber covering back on, stick it down lightly in position, then heat it with a hand-held hair dryer. This softens the covering (and adhesive) and makes it more flexible, allowing it to be pressed inwards along its edges, ensuring a close, flush fit. When the covering cools off, it will be fit tightly and stay put.

Thanks for the advice. The "grip" on the right side of mine has also become loose, after two years (and after one of using a wrist strap all the time.)

Still trying to See.
Yes it seems common after 18 months to two years. I re-fixed mine with Evostick adhesive.

Both UHU and Pattex (transparent) function well.

Double-sided tape, as originally used, is more convenient than glue; however, most tapes are too weedy, and come unstuck after a short time (I tried several, including strong carpet tape).
The solution is 3M Scotch Clear Heavy-Duty Mounting Tape.
Alternatively, you can buy the original tape from an Epson spares supplier for 10 euros ($10) - expensive for what it is, but OTOH it'll definitely work: http://www.richcutler.co.uk/r-d1/r-d1_14.htm
