So do tell ... which one do you prefer? As an impending ZI owner I'm curious. :)

Only a day or so away now from clicking the BIN button ... does Matsuiya sell the grips Joe ... if not where can I get one?

Also I'm just about convinced that the silver Ikon is the way to go .... bloody beautiful!!! :)

Hey Keith I bought a silver ZI myself and I love it. One gripe though is that I dont like the way it looks with black lenses. Hehe.

In any case its ok cause the lenses I do have are silver. haha.

I think it looks great in black too, but I'm afraid the finish of the black paint doesnt seem as resistant as the silver finish.

Yeah, Joe; which do you like better? I have the Zeiss grip on mine and like it fine. But then I have not tried a Photoequip grip either.

jbf, hope you enjoy your silver Z-I, those look pretty sharp. Mine is black, holding up very well, but then I'm pretty gentle with my gear.

i have not completely made up my mind.
i have used the metal photoequip grips on the canon p, leica m3, and the zi so i am very used to them and find them comfortable. i also really like the angled grip as i can use my finger tips to hold the camera if i want/need. you can't do that on the rounded zeiss grip.
in favour of the zeiss grip, it's a bit smaller, fits the camera 100%, is lighter and doesn't get cold in the winter.
i think that i'll likely stick with the zeiss one as it makes sense to have one that is smaller and lighter to match the camera.

keith, the silver body is very much a thing of beauty as are the silver zm lenses.

I'm usually pretty gentle with my gear too. Funny thing is that I've already got some paint wear on my silver ZI by the strap lugs. The current strap I have on it has leather protectors but apparently it has metal 'brads' that piece the leather together. Normally it is embossed down into the leather so that it cannot scratch but apparently it made enough contact to rubb a slight arc on the camera. :( It has since been taped to prevent that from happening.

Oh well! :D First battle scars.

Here is mine with the ZI grip.

I have a Luigi grip case on order for my Ikon but will still probably get a Zeiss grip for the times I feel like being 'naked!'

I'm so pleased I chose the silver camera now and will get a couple of silver Zeiss lenses when finaces allow ... a 25mm would be nice initially and then maybe a 50mm Sonar and sell my Nokton. Actually the Nokton looks nice on the ZI and it made me think that a silver Sonar would look even better!

keith, have you seen the zi photos thread?

joe

Seen it! ... I'm in it! ... well the Ikon is with a 50mm f1.2 Canon on it. :)

I thought you mods were supposed to be paying attention to what goes on in the threads ... it's no wonder the riff raff get away with so much!!! :p

i was being rhetorical (i think)...actually just wanted to point out the lovely (humble) shots of my zi gear...silver on silver etc.

and the zm 25 is a fantastic lens and a great first choice.

I see a lot of dead flickr links in your posts Joe ... what's happening there?

And yes silver on silver is sooo classy! Not to mention every black camera I touch or use winds up with all the oil from my nose all over it ... someone should market 'nose oil' .... a little bit goes a long way! :p
