I ordered the griptac gray leatherette kit from morgan @ cameraleather.com and I have to say, I love, love, love the feel. I had ordered a red 9x6" full sheet of the stuff from morgan a few years ago and customized my R-D1 to a red but never liked how it showed the imperfections of the metal, etc., underneath, so I decided to stick it over the rubber. It worked for the most part, but I got tired of it. Just too beefy. So I tried the griptac, after installing it on my FE2, and it really works well, I highly suggest it. It comes in black or gray. I chose gray, just looks retro. @ $13, it's worth it.

I've got a black Griptac kit on my desk just waiting for the right day to put it on. Got the kit for my Canon S90 as well, I did that one right away and it's great - can't wait to get it on my R-D1 now!

you have the option to remove the hump on the back. I went ahead and removed it. But removing it means you have some odd indentations and rubber pattern fitting. The kit comes with a cushion spacer, or a shim. If you decide to remove the back rubber, you need to stick it to where the end of the grip joins to back of the flip screen. I ended up exacto knifing it in half and doubling it, flush to the edge of the flip screen. The griptac will continue over to the very top of the back where the flip screen hides.

it's a very good pattern that Morgan put together. Kudos to him for finally giving us the option...

same grip/style, different colours.
it's the 'bridge grip', from ebay, goes for about 140 bucks.
very solid and comfortable, metal...fits perfectly.

Gray griptac looks nice. I recently did the black and also took off my hump. I absolutely love the more slender yet grippier feel.
