After carrying my Hexar for a couple weeks on my honeymoon, the covering started to rub smooth:

The back got particularly bad.

So I ordered a Griptac kit from Cameraleather.com...

Removing the covering of the Hexar was rather difficult, as the rubber material easily separated from its adhesive paper back. So I had to use a wooden tool to carefully scrape off the gummy paper from the camera. With the covering off the camera, it was clear that it's simply rubber, which explains why it rubs smooth so easily. The Griptac is synthetic, so hopefully it will last a while longer.

In the end, it looks pretty good!

I am about to do the same thing (from cameraleather) to my black hexar. I am awaiting arrival of the brown lizard skin-- haha.

I discovered that Aki-asahi also offers covering for the Hexar, it's on the Japanese order page only but you can always mail her to place an order directly.

One sad thing is that they support only the original Hexar Black which comes without the databack.

I personally will hesitate to order anything new from Morgan until I receive my Griptac covering for Bessas I ordered five months ago...

For my previous purchases I mailed Morgan, some arrived in two weeks, some went on for several months. This time I'm not in a hurry so felt not bother him, who is a busy man with a day job, as we all know. I'll mail him when it comes the sixth moon I guess...

Sorry for driving it off the topic. Let's not make this thread into another Cameraleather experience one!

That looks really good! I'm ok with the smooth rubber on my black Hexar for now, but I would definitely like to recover it in the future, it totally changes the look of the camera, and something tells me it would improve the handling as well.
