Gsn & Auto s2 viewfinder brightness

Today I got my first GSN, in highly good electronic and mechanical health.
When I look through the viewfinder I notice the following: the yellow diamond patch is quite bright and the frame lines even much brighter. But the image looks noticeable dimmer than that of the Konica Auto s2. Not foggy, but dimmer.
I have cleaned myself the viewfinder of the Auto s2 and what I am asking is wether I should perform the same with the GSN, or not.

Or in other words, given the two well serviced cameras, should they be enabling equally bright viewing, or what ?

Thanks in advance,
Ruben

I´ve both cameras. The GSN Vf is a bit brighter than the Konica, but both cameras´VFs were cleaned upon arrival. In fact I found the GSN VF flare prone, but not the Konica. In both cases cameras were aimed almost directly to a light source.

The GSN´s VF is easy to get foggish (I don´t know why it is the same in all the Yashicas I had) and besides in my camera there was a missing black light baffle over the VF assy. I took one from a donor camera and contrast improved dramatically. Check if this is the case, as flare and light leaks are something to avoid.
Hope it helps.

:bang: I have at least one of each and after cleaning the glass of each rangefinder ( not the mirror) I would say that for all intents and purposes that they are about the same brightness. Don't know which camera I like the best the Konica feels a bit more solid.

Still to come into my saloon,
:bang: The Konica Auto S2 vs Lynx 1000 match. :bang:

Cheers,
Ruben

OK, today I opened the top casting for cleaning the VF and the image improved, relatively to what it was before. Now it is more sharpy, but still very much dim like a Kiev. Slightly better than a Kiev, but very very far from the brightness level I have in my Konica Auto s2, since I cleaned its viewfinder.

What's hapening with my GSN viewfinder ? Baffle was in place.

I should be stated that comming from the Kiev faith, I have no problem with my GSN viewfinder being at the same brightness level, with my GSM yellow patch looking as bright as that of a latter Kiev. But you are telling me the GSN viewfinder should be much brighter. Any clue ?

Can be the case that in my specific Konica I have an exceptionally clear VF ?

Help requested.

Thanks,
Ruben

Just can´t tell you what´s wrong in your GSN.
Did you clean all surfaces (mirrors excepted)? And the other glasses (bonded to the top casting)?
Take care of not leaving any residue after cleaning as it will produce haze.
VF brightness is difficult to check as the eye doesn´t have a linear response to light levels and it also depends of the colour.

Ernesto.

Ruben,

I have a GSN that has a blue cast to the viewfinder, it's quite good but pales beside my Konica Auto S. I cleaned the Auto S and it's very bright. I also have an Auto S2 that isn't as bright, it's more like the GSN you describe. It's a little subdued but in normal daylight there's no problem. I think it's an individual thing, depends on the state of the camera more than the make. At least between these two makes.
