GSN Flash position working as AUTO

Hi chaps! Having my 1979 GSN sent to the USA for CLaD and back was a good thing! Everything seems to be working fine, however, the shutter release is way down beyond normal, and the flash gun position is working like Auto. Interestingly enough, Bulb does the intended action!

I haven't heard from the reputable technician since and I would like to have an expert assessment of the issue. Perhaps it is too hard to tackle on my own or even by the technician himself. In the mean time the GSN has become my main camera, having my Maxxum 600 si set aside!

The black and white pictures come alright. However, I can't say the same about the color pictures, but the quality of light hasn't been great during the rainy season in Costa Rica. Except for quite a few double exposures that came alright!

Robert, can you describe more fully the camera behavior you are seeing.

I understand the shutter fires when the shutter release button is pretty far down.

I don't understand the second comment about flash and auto.

Colonel:

Auto position has step less shutter speeds according to diaphragm.

Normal flash position fixes shutter speed at 1/30 of a second and the photographers sets the aperture based on flash index number and a table according to distance.

In my camera, the Flash position keeps setting speed steplessly as if it were in Auto position.

Flash setting working like Auto, that's something new to me. Can't offer any help here.

Quirks led me to abandon GSN and move on to mechanical RF's...but that's not too useful for you.

If I don't misunderstand you, that would be an indicator of the pin in the flash socket having gone astray or some other damage to the flash switch.

Sevo, Auto and Bulb position work correctly but flash doesn't fix shutter speed at 1/30 of a second....
