GSN "high"/"low" lights not working-Easy fix?

I've really been enjoying my GSN that I purchased last fall but within the last week the high/low lights stopped functioning. The battery check light works fine. Is there a relatively easy fix for this or should I be sending it out to somebody for repair?

Any input or information greatly appreciated!

You can check for long and short exposures in dim and bright light. But I don't like the outlook.

Yeah, I'm not too optimistic but I'm still hopeful. I just developed the roll that was in the camera when the problem started. I was on a photo walk and had my Rolleicord and light meter so I was able to meter the shots manually. I also took some images w/out the meter. The negatives look OK but I'll know more tomorrow once I scan some in.

The easy fixes, then, are exercising the dickens out of the controls and checking the integrity of the two red wires in the battery compartment. Right?

I do not count it as easy to make adjustments and a pad replacement under the covers.

Hi MS,

There's a small metal bracket holding the Hi-Lo lights (see below). The screw holding this bracket may have come loose. The bracket can be adjusted (fractionally) forward/back and side tae side until the arrows appear in the VF - if indeed that's the only problem and not broken wires or burnt out lamps.

Be careful removing the top as there's a very short wire attached tae the body from the top.

Thanks for the tip! I will take a look at that (being very careful with the top plate) and see if that is indeed the problem and report back.

Mark, I had a GSN like that. The shutter worked correctly--at least it sounded approximately correct--but the lights didn't operate. I tracked it down to corrosion in one of the terminals of the forked release switch. Yes, I know that switch is gold-plated, but the base metal under the gold can be eaten away by battery corrosion, and the gold flakes off. I replaced the switch, but something else went wrong, so I never did get all parts of the camera working at the same time.

If you want to try to track down the break, the circuit schematics, figs. 62, 63, and 64, in the Electro 35 service manual are helpful. I also have some parts cameras. If you want to try to replace the switch, PM me.

PS: Of course the problem could be in the wiring to the switch, too. Or something else. 😕
