GSN Lens Hood

I was thinking of using a collapsible rubber hood on my GSN; however, it appears that it would obscure the light meter to some degree.

Is my assumption correct?
What shape/length is recommended?

It comes straight out off the lens without a flareout, although you can live with a little of that. The rubber hoods are too wide for rangefinders.

What do you think of the rectangular hoods ........or one that would be flat on top?

Hama makes a rectangular hood, but it's for 24-28mm lens. May be a spacer ring between the lens and the hood would make that hood more efficient. A Ebay seller, heavystar, sells round hood with cut outs, but do not know if the hoods come with 55mm thread.

I bought a new generic hood for a mere $2, stashed in the bottom of a 'second hand' bin. Any 55 mm hood for a 'normal' lens will do.

It is a little bit pricey, but does include a cap. (I can also use it on my YUS 135/2.8)

I tried a hood with very similar dimensions on my GSN and found that at closer focus it caused vignetting. I later pusrchsed two hoods from the source that Greyhound Man linked to above. The wider flare doesn't vignette, and it is a bit deeper. You do see it in the viewfinder though. You learn to work with it.

I'm looking for a Yashica GSN lens hood and haven't found one... I would prefer to buy from european sellers regarding tax and customs problems, etc.

i've bought the elmo 57mm slip-on hood for my electro
first the seller is nice, but it took a month and several emails to get it. (from UK to france)
next the hood itself is hard plastic, only the ring is metal (alu)

Thanks for the pictures, that's exactly what I want to know... After looking at them, I would go for the original metal lens hood, the problem is finding one...

i bought a rubber hood from ritzcamera for $6 and cutted out a notch for the rangefinder. it's ghetto and huge but it works really well. I've started a thread about using multi-coated filters to control the flare (just a thought). I just want something subtle that i can conceal under my coat. by the way, it does obscure the light meter to some extent but i angle it in various postions to get an overall metering before taking the picture.
