GSN Repair Question

I recently picked up a nice GSN for repair. It was DOA when I received it, but I resoldered the white lead to the battery chamber spring and now the yellow light comes on. However, although the shutter opens and closes on the 1/500 default setting without the battery, when a battery is inserted, the shutter opens but stays open until I advance the film. Is this an electrical problem or a mechanical problem? I notice that the POD has been replaced with a piece of white plastic, but it looks rather thick. Could this possibly be part of the problem. I've refurbished several of these Yashicas over the years but I've not run into this problem previously. :bang: Would appreciate any helpful input.

Could be a dud electrolytic capacitor in the timing circuit (i.e. infinite capacity)- these are normally odd values, but you can replace with a close value tantalum bead.

Alternatively check that all the leads to the resistor chain in the aperture selector are complete, and that the sliding fingers in the ring are all clean and making good contact.

Otherwise check all soldered joints, clean the sliding contacts under the release button and check they are in good contact, and that the adjustment between the release rod and the slider rod is correct. Providing the POD is less than 3mm thick, it should work.
