I am trying to repair two Yashica Electros and need some opinions  as to what may be wrong with each.

The first is a GTN that has a locked up rewind lever. I managed to release it earlier today, and when I put a fresh battery in, the test light and the yellow exposure lights worked. However I think the shutter was only firing at the default speed. The rewind became ‘stuck’ again in the forward position :bang: and I am waiting for some Liquid Wrench to work its’ magic so I can get that bottom plate off.

This camera also had a stuck self-timer. I disassembled the lens to the point where I could release it manually and lightly oiled the gears. I’m waiting till I resolve the rewind issue completely before testing this function.

I also cleaned up the contacts inside the lens, forward of the gear compartment, with an eraser and tested with a multi-meter for shorts and voltage within the lens. It seems all is well in that department within the lens.

The second camera is a GS that fires at the default speed without a battery. When I put a fresh battery in it, it acts as if it is set on ‘B” regardless of lens settings, ASA settings, etc. The test light works and the yellow light works.

I am wondering if either of these have a ‘pad of death’ issue at the root of their troubles?

Any advice as to how to proceed will be welcomed, as I have to fix these myself lacking the resources to have it done by someone else. Besides, this is more fun. :D

Cheers,
Eli

Yes, I've seen the Yashica Guys page, but I am trying to go easy and hear from as many others as I can before taking a decision as to how to proceed. I want(ed) to be reasonably certain that the POD is the main problem in the GS before I begin work on it.

After my first posting I tried the bottom plate screws one more time on the GTN. The Liquid Wrench did not help. As the heads were partially stripped I went ahead and put the 1/16 inch bit to work in the drill press. I managed to keep the bit centered and removed the plate without spoiling things. I will finish with the drill and tap, once I resolve the winder/POD and know the electronics are ok.

Is there a site out there that has info on doing the wind system overhaul?

Thanks for the feedback…keep it coming. :)

Cheers
