i was given this film in holders and was told it was hp5 or fp4 but it matches neither those codes, nor any other i can find. anybody know it?

It's not Ilford and doesn't look like any Kodak film notches that I've seen in the past 4 decades. Also don't think it's Fuji. My guess is it's Agfa or one of the European films. It's been years since using any Agfa but that's my guess. I would guess Agfa 100 or Gevert of some vintage.

whatever it is, i shot it at 100 and it seemed to like about 12 mins in xtol 1:1. experiments ongoing.

Some place kicking around here I still have some of those multi-ring binders that Kodak used to sell just stuffed with those soft cover 75 cent booklets full of photo info from the 1940's at least into the 1970's. One contains notch codes and processing info for all kinds of sheet film. Today it seems amazing just how many varieties of sheet film you could buy 50 years ago, and not just from Kodak. There was DuPont, Ansco, Ilford, Agfa, Gavaert...and each in a variety of inch and metric sizes.
