Guess what's on the sensor

So here's a game ... m4/3 owned the camera for 2 months from purchase and noticed this weird build up on the sensor. I tried shooting from f2.8 to f22 and none of the images seem to be affected... tried focusing infinity and close focus. But it has me worried... it's very faint and only noticeable in weak lighting such as desk lamp. If you try to look at it outdoors in bright light it's hardly even there.

It looks like condensation or crystallization of some kind. I would proceed exactly how Brian prescribed. However, it is interesting.

Weird mold, perhaps? I've seen mold grow in lines like that before.

But you didn't mention if you'd seen it get worse, so my guess would be that it's a manufacturing defect.

looks like Japanese Kanji for okamura / okabaiyashi .... perhaps the kid in your sig smoking a cig was having some fun with a sharp pointed object ....

or its sensor fungus

It looks a lot like the fungus I've seen on old lenses, but this is too new for fungus to be that advanced.

Its just a few scratches, no biggie.

looks like you might have mounted some lenses (adapted) that you are not suppose to.

It is definitely fungus. You need to keep these goodies in an environment at or under 50% relative humidity if you're in a humid country.

this wouldn't happen with film of course, cos film is, as we know ... dead

That is really weird! Fungus can grow on a sensor? Guess it makes sense, it grows on polished lens surfaces why would it not grow on the cover glass of a sensor....still......weird.....

I'd try to have it corrected. (still under warranty?)
If it is this "bad" at only 2 months, think of the years ahead.
