I remember back in the dawn of the internet in the home, girls avoided places like this because they use to get hit on. How times have changed...

My biggest surprise many years ago was the university's role-playing club, I expected to see mainly big sweaty guys, skinny geeks and one or two die-hard female Anne Rice fans (normal RPG stereotypes). How wrong was I! The ratio was 60/40 females to male! According to my fellow drinking buddies I joined all the "right" uni clubs.

Stu :)

Stu, indeed the RPG and/or Manga worlds have surprising ratios :D

Our uni even launched a campaign with ads and posters saying 'girls, don't be afraid of engineering!'. I guess what they really wanted to say was 'girl, don't be afraid of engineers!' :p

Fortunately, things have changed and we no longer have a so appalling ratio, nor have to compile our Modula-2 programs on monochrome VT220 terminals over a VAX/ALPHA machine :bang:

It still surprises me. However wargames here seems to be still a male populated pastime.

<giggle> :D
It could be worse... Babbage machines!
Second assignment for Robotics at UA was write a report on the infernal device and produce a BASIC C version of it with RS-232 or parallel outputs...

Stu :)

LOL! I thought I would be in the minority here, but not by this amount! :)

(And I'm not answering the one on age!) :) :(

Well, Natalia will tell you that we are a relatively well behaved and smartly groomed bunch of lugs.

Welcome.

Rover, truth be told this forum is very ABNORMAL....No flaming, no cursing, etc. That's why I stayed here. So, all the newbs, come on in, the water's fine:)

Why do we have to be a "bunch" of nice guys? Why can't we be a "gaggle of nice guys." It's more alliterative.

Hmmm. It's a "murder" of crows. (And after trying to sleep next to a group of 'em I understand why)...

Yes, in 2 days I'm very impressed with the quality of the people, the conversation, and the photos here. :) With many of the online forums (fora?) you really have to have thick skin! This place seems to be indeed the rose among the thorns! :)

I came here mainly to identify a camera I once had, and I was only dreaming of finding another one. Within a day, not only did it get identified, but another user here pointed to one on sale on Ebay (mis-filed under SLRs). :) Alas, somebody else wanted it more than I did. :) I'm sure there will be others now that I know exactly what to look for (and that I know to search more than the rangefinder category there).

Thanks again, gang. :)

Oh, and I do think that "guys" is sufficiently unisex. :)

Now to think of the correct collective noun for rangefinder fans. :)

Beautiful! A coincidence of rangefinder camera fans! I love this kind of wordplay!

How about a clatter of SLR fans? A snob of Leicaphiles?

Hey, if only I could afford a Leica. :)

ReeF'rs... if someone can make the ee's overlap a bit, it'd be perfect.
