Guys, any users of Summicron M 90/2 v1 on Leica M9?

Guys, any users of Summicron M 90/2 v1 on Leica M9? I am considering to buy one (silver) on the secondary market in mint condition. What is your experience with this lens? Especially wide open? I have 1.25 magnifier, but seems like have to swap i for x1.4, if I decide to pick up this lens.

I haven't used one on an M9, but I have on an M3. It's a big heavy lens, superb at all stops but very prone to flare, and I stopped using it as it was just too big.

The 90/2 V1 is a great lens, but it was too big and heavy so I eventually traded up to the lighter more compact V2. The viewfinder was never an issue for me, but you may have problems with retro focus when fully open, which is where you want to be using these lenses. With my V2 I was able to get the lens re-calibrated by Leica, but I'm not sure whether that would be possible with the V1.

Recalibrated for Focus? I don't understand "problems with retrofocus." I don't think the Summicron-M is a retrofocus lens (it doesn't need to be, since the rangefinder Leica has no mirror to clear) but I don't know if that is what was meant. Perhaps "shift of focus" was intended? If so, I'd like to see more about that. Is the 90 Summicron not set up for best focus wide open?

Alex, your 1.2 magnifier might be enough. Then again, if you get the 90mm Summicron and you like it, you could always swap for the 1.4 later if you feel the need. Having some older Leica glass to use on the M9 seems like a good idea to me!

I have an M-E and 1.25x with the first version 90 cron. Completely usable.

I actually leave on the 1.25x unless I’m going wider than 50; half because I was weaned on a M3 and half because I’m scared to death I’ll lose it.

I have used a Summicron 90mm f/2 lens on an M10. I have no idea which version it is.

Originally, I purchased the lens for reportage and portraits. Great lens; however, I need to take head and shoulders portraits of people sitting across the table from me but cannot because the lens does not close-focus well.

I have a Summicron with built-in lens hood. Is this V1 or V2? It is a great lens for portraits. Heavy and beautifully built.
