it's not ok to call other folks names.
i understand a 'heat of the moment' comment but there is no need for rudeness just for the sake of being rude.
we are getting more and more comments from the members here that rff is becoming more and more like other rude sites.
i'd like for that not to happen.

I'm sure "moderator" is a synonym for something but I can't think quite what at the moment (answers on a postcard please) also the phrase "get a life" comes to mind. Oh and the suggestion to get a sense of humour would seem to equally apply...

Sorry I think you got me on a bad day. I just get tired of the various "moderators" adopting the role of "dictators" and policing threads in a heavy handed and unnecessary way. I would hazard a guess that the majority of members of this site are big grown up people who live love lie and swear and are not naive child like creatures who would shrink into a corner screaming and dialling a shrink at the mention of a word like "Bozo". This rant is not directed at this thread in particular, but I am becoming somewhat disturbed at the "nanny state" censoring of inocuous and frivolous remarks. At the risk of repeating myself...get a sense of humour.

i have a sense of humour but i also have an obligation to rff to keep this place a sanctuary for people to come to and enjoy themselves while talking about gear and photography.
it's way too easy to lose control and have a few negative types ruin a site.
i've seen it happen too many tmes for my liking.
plus, after only a handful of posts, i would think you might want to just watch for awhile and see if i really am the 'dictator' you think i am.

Hey ... I've heard the mods at p.net are issued with mace gas and a batton ... plus a suicide pill in case they can't evade capture and possible interrogation.
You're a 'pussycat' Joe!

I think a mildly sarcastic or flippant remark directed at overly self-indulgent or self-satisfied people is hardly equal to a determined troll trying to destroy a forum with negativity.
OK, there will be some people offended at the tone of certain pointed remarks, but that's life.
Another way to destroy a forum is to over-sanitize it. A "Stepford" forum of totally like-thinking people is also a recipe for boredom.
I posted a few days ago about my dislike for using "cron" and "lux" instead of "Summicron" and "Summilux".
Is that a crime? From the reaction of people here, you'd think I'd just posted a notice of heresy.
PS: "Edward Felcher" is not my real name. If people wish to analyze it or identify it with a disgusting act, I find it amusing. I'm not particularly sensitive about silly name calling on an online forum.

I would say if you searched the forum for my technical posts where I answer questions my level of camera and photography expertise exceeds yours by several large orders of magnitude.
YOU never answered my question about whether you were a native New Yorker or transplanted flyover from Podunk.

I've seen that and a number of other recent posts, such as the one where you complained about the use of the spelling 'lense'. I'd like to make two remarks on that.Edward Felcher said:Another way to destroy a forum is to over-sanitize it. [...]

Firstly, from an entirely neutral point of view, many of your posts especially in this discussion here and the "lense" discussion do seem to me at least a bit more engaged than warranted by the subject. I'm not sure if that's deliberate or intentional, and I realise that in an online forum it's quite easy to come across differently than intended, hence I hesitate to call them "rude". If you intend to come across this way, I can't say I appreciate it; if you don't, I guess you might be interested to have this pointed out.
Secondly, I don't understand why on one hand you complain about "over-sanitisation", and then on the other hand repeatedly and vigorously criticise others' use of language on what seems to me trivial matters (extra "e" in "lense") or more or less established figures of speech in the Leica subculture ("'cron" for "Summicron" etc.). I just don't grasp how the two go together: linguisitic purism on one hand and an outspoken stance against sanitisation on the other.

Being a snoop? Looking into it myself? Pursuing people because I'm an "internet crazy"?
Where on earth do you come up with this nonsense?
Let's see, I made a comment about ONE of your publicly posted photos.
In what paranoid fantasy does that translate into being a "snoop" or my ruminating about posting a web page about someone someone here?
I have no interest in you, anything personal about you, or anyone else here for that matter. It's just words on an internet forum.
You, on the other hand, seem to be internalizing everything I post and taking personal offense. You follow almost every post I make with an inane remark. Who's "really angry"? I would be totally unaware of your existence if you didn't keep dogging my posts.

endustry said:So your parents had you in New York and you decided to stay. Good for you! That's a fabulous accomplishment, Ed. I must say that if my attempts to gain attention from anonymous people on the internet was backfiring, the first thing I would do would be to attempt to render them un-anonymous, too (you know, see if the real me was at least better than the real them, etc.) If I told you I was from Tokyo, Dublin or San Francisco, which answer would make you feel better, Ed? Since you're so curious, why not look into it yourself. You do like to do that sort of thing, too, right? You know, being a snoop in addition to being a troll. Most internet crazies do a bit of both. We had another guy named Frank on RFF last year who even made a webpage about the rest of us after he got really angry. Do you get really angry, too?

ok, let's end this infantile nonsense here & now.
edward, we like rff the way it is, if this is not to your liking then there are other sites that might actually enjoy your style of post.
