As I know most of you also surf the leica-users-forum website, I read an interesting set of threads about bypassing the Leica coding for non-Leica lenses for use on the M8. Seems that the coding bits for each lens length is easily available, and with gaffers tape and a sharpie, you can "code" your non-leica lenses so that the M8 thinks the lens you have mounted is a Leica lens of the appropriate length. This enables full "vignetting-correction" in the pre-processing of the camera picture files. Since I have primarily CV lenses (which are sufficient for my use), this really increases my desire for an M8- not having to spend $$$$ for Leica brand lenses! Go here for the thread: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/di...f-concept-regarding-self-coding-lenses-6.html

I believe the gaffer's tape was just used to disguise the red dot? It's the Sharpie that does the lens stuff...the sequences for the dots (the lenses they call up) and a couple of illustrations of how it's done are also on the site. Before anybody invests huge sums of money in a Sharpie, though, know that lots of people are pushing Leica for a firmware version of the lens coding, so that you can manually do what the codes do automatically. This would obviate the need for a Sharpie investment; for the price of one Sharpie, you could probably get five pencils.

I think the only guy that took up drawing for photography hit the dirt a few years back. Nobody's into pencils now...John Camp said:for the price of one Sharpie, you could probably get five pencils.
