Had to delete a thread

hehe, thanks Kim. In hungarian, that would be"aki kivancsi, megoregszik" that is, if you are too curious you get old. Obviously you always get old, but in this case it should happen faster.

Oscar - that one i understand. 😀

Roger, i have never found you offensive - but then, it's quite difficult to offend me, being a very pessimistic person you can't tell bad things about me that I never thought of.
(No, you don't have to try. 😀 )

Speaking of culture. Those of you who have a thing for FSU gear should try to get hold of a book written in the late '70s by Heydrick Smith called "The Russians." It is a snapshot of the people and culture that also gives insight into the camera industry (the way Soviet industry worked) Smith did a followup in 1990 "The New Russians" but it is more of an analysis of changes in government that the Soviet people.

I'm wondering if others have noticed, but in addition to the multicultural/nationalities aspect here I've noticed an increasing number of female members. We have Stephanie recently joined, and we have a Cathy and one or two others with aconyms (I think). And of course we have Natalia! 🙂 These kinds of forums often seem to be male preserves and its really nice to see some women members here.

Hey I made a comment about American spelling in some other thread. It was intended as a joke, and I don't think anyone took offense but in case someone did I apologize. Meant nothing really.

On Leica forum on photo.net we might be called "brown-nosing", etc.,
If showing kindness and respect to others is brown-nosing... COLOR ME BROWN.

I could enjoy my cameras and hobby just fine without this Forum, but have been taking great pleasure in the camaraderie and really appreciate the respect shown by all. Case in point, Roger's above reply. Bravo Roger!

How could you realise that we tend to drop z's and spell colour wrong. We specialise in making english new again🙂

There is, I think, a certain amount of cultural difference here in the perception of the point at which robustly expressed opinions become offensive. I didn't think I was being offensive, but clearly Jorge did, and I have already written to him privately to express my apologies. I should like to extend those apologies to anyone else who was offended.

Cheers,

Roger

I was one of the individuals who responded to the post , and I apologize for the post I made in response to something I thought was in gest, which apparantly was not percieved as such. I was just sharing a story of a single event while visiting the country -- the single event I shared was definitely not representative of the grand time I had there.

My apologies to all who may have been offended.

Dear Vsolanoy,

It was indeed meant to be substantially lighthearted, and indeed, as I said to one of the Italians who responded (I've lost his name because the thread was deleted) I should be delighted to take him up on his offer of showing me some of Rome's good, backstreet, low-cost restaurants.

Cheers,

Roger
