Half-cases, anyone?

If the camera is not in my hand , it's in my shoulder bag with the cover just flipped but not locked, so I can grab it very quickly. I never tried a half case and never will. Most of them are leather and can get soggy, humid and prevent the camera body from breathing. If it doesn't really do damage it most likely is also no gonna help anything - besides getting no brassing on the bottom plate😉

In my view, they're worse than a waste of money. I prefer a slimmer camera that I can reload fast.

Personally I do like cases and half-cases--- which in my case tend to be the bottom half of cases. Many of my cameras don't have provisions for shoulder straps.
Rapid film changes might have once been important but in today's digital capture world it does not matter anymore if I can change film in under X seconds. Its still X seconds too long for many.
While rangefinder photography was once fast food its been made obsolete by other faster technologies. Shooting film today is slow food. Its to enjoy.

I have a IIIA and use no case on it as it is a camera that has scars that works well. It has Cameraleather on it that works well for grip and I only use a collapsible Elmar with a wrist strap. It's my pocket camera. I have a M6TTL with a Zhou case and since I use larger lenses and it is a larger camera the grips on the case help considerably. It's my neck strap camera. It still takes longer for me to change film on the IIIA than the M6 even without a case.

I think whatever works, but my setup works for me. As for indicating film type, I use a bit of the film box stuck in the accessory shoe on both.

I think the full and half cases are probably more suited to digital use

I use a very old beat up Yashica ever-ready case on my black tape M9. I want the camera to look as cheap and nondescript as possible in certain situations. The full case also gives water and shock protection when I just have a 50 sonnar on the camera and am not carrying a bag.

When shooting with the case, I often fix the ISO somewhere between 400 and 800, switch off the auto-review, and shoot just like a film camera exept a roll of film lasts about 400 shots.

Have Mr Zhou half cases for my two Bessas and Leica CL, they handle better in them IMHO
Also use them on two Focas Fed2 and Arette.

I turned the cases that came with my FED 4 and FED 5 cameras into half cases so I could carry the cameras with a strap--no lugs on them--and I used the Bessa case for a while because I prefer the slightly bigger feel the case gave my R and R2a. I have since got a side grip on the R and a trigger winder on the R2a and no longer use the Bessa case.

My Luigi 1/2 case increases my shooting pleasure. IF I plan to do a lot of shooting I simply remove the case. No biggy.

If one is going to put a half-case on a camera, one might as well get this Luigi person to make up half-cases for their Toaster and Food Processor as well. After all, they too are tools for particular jobs and should be protected from whatever, the same as a camera.

Well, no. Most folks don't actually hold the toaster/food processor while they are using 'em...

I would like one for my CL because the case has better strap lugs.
The Luigi half case looks great but I would love to see it attached to the camera in some way. Has anyone tried this combo? Is it secure?

Yes it is secure. Apart from snugly fitting the CL, the strap end not fixed to the case is attached to the top strap lug of the camera. This can be seen in Luigi's "M cases" page-

A major drawback is having to take the case off to change films, but this has to happen with any never ready case anyway
