So, just developed the first few rolls from my new M4 and while 1 roll came out perfectly, the second had a few exposures where only half of the negative was exposed. It would seem to be some issue with the shutter curtain, and I think that they would be on the higher end of the shutter speed dial, probably 1/1000 or 1/500. What is weird to me is that only a few on the roll were this way and the second half of the roll was shot fine. Also, the first 11 exposures on the roll are entirely blank. Anyone experience anything similar or have an explanation? I'll try and get a scan in sometime soon if this is at all vague. Thanks.

the shutter curtains are capping at the higher speed.
camera needs to see a camera tech.

I have an M2 that does this and is waiting to be sent for a CLA

If you hold the camera up to the light with the lens off and look throught the back you'll see the difference at the higher shutter speeds. I had a similar problem with a newly bought Nikon and at 1/1000 it was barely letting any light through at all at times.

Depending how long the camera was sitting before you got it it may improve with use ... even firing the shutter a few hunderd times may resolve it as it seems to be intermittent and may come good with exercise, 🙂

Funny, I had the exact same problem on my M2.
I was stumped and posted a question about it here earlier this week.

Just sent it out for CLA this morning.
