Handheld lighting set up for X100 portraits

I thought I'd take advantage of the leaf shutter and create a little lighting set-up on the cheap.

Old Vivitar 283 flash with VP-1, eBay flash bracket, Lumiquest Softbox LTP, cheap Jessops cord, X100 with rather large, rather heavy Olympus 1.5x tele converter (£30). It's only slightly cumbersome, and easy to use one the move, exploring your location. Looking forward to exploring high speed sync in daylight for portraits.

Jeez, that's a huge setup compared to the camera! Results look spectacular. I have one of the tiny LumiQuest soft boxes, but this looks like it might accompany my potato masher quite nicely.

Cheers. It's certainly not for everyday use. But much easier than setting up light stands and heavy strobes for killing the sunlight with standard (no leaf shutter) cameras.

And the sync speed should easily be 1/1000 sec if not faster!

It will sync at 1/2000 (I think the flower pic is that) easily, even at f2. I thought that wasn't possible, but it even seems to sync at 1/4000 at f2.

I didn't want to overstate the case. I have read other reports of 1/4000 sync speeds using wired connections.

After some reading and tests it seems that the leaf shutter at 4000th behaves like it's at f4 even when it's at f2. So you might as well shoot at f4, or try and get the shutter down to 1000th.
