Was hoping for a actual hands-on review, i.e testing things like.. the autofocus..
But I guess reading specs like:
"The FUJIFILM X-E1 pairs perfectly with the XF18mm-55mm (27-84mm) F2.8-4 lens to deliver super-fast focusing speeds that will capture even the fastest action. The highly responsive linear motor in the XF18-55mm lens combines with the high-speed signal readout of the X-Trans CMOS sensor and the EXR Processor Pro, to achieve a huge leap in AF speed and precision performance. Contrast Detection in the X-E1 brings your subject into sharp focus in as little as 0.1 seconds."
So this leads me that the X-E1 itself is no different in terms of autofocus as the X-Pro1? and that all this amazingness lies in that 18-55 lens only..

The main selling point of this camera is its sensor, however, with used Xpro1 going for close to 1000, which will perform the same with updated firmware, I don't see the point of getting this one.
Well, the new one has a better EVF. Some might want that.

One cannot help but admire Fuji for selling the same camera with a new firmware and simply replacing its VF and downgrading its LCD.
If Nikon or Canon pulled such shenanigans, there would be blood on the streets. I mean Fuji even makes Sony look good by blatantly ripping off the design of Nex-7 and putting it in a slower and less capable camera.

horses for courses fstop. i wouldnt buy an nex7 on a dare. just personal preference, not saying others wouldnt or shouldnt. but to me, its ugly as sin and looks even worse when matched with those horribly large sony lenses.
and my again admittedly subjective take on can-nikon is they come out with 'new' old stuff all the time and have for many more years than fuji. the 20d, 30d, 40d, 60d oh gosh have i missed a 'd' or two?! ):

I wouldn't buy a Nex-7 because its EVF is too contrasty, other than that its a great camera.
Ugly or beauty is not something that I care about in a camera, its all about ergonomics and weight for my use.
Nikon and Canon make cameras for photographers and their cameras don't need magical firmware every six months to get "better". I have a 5 year old Nikon DSLR that works like it did on the first day I got it.

I have to agree.
I don't buy cameras by looks, it's not fashion I'm interested in.
The NEX 7 is a fantastic image maker.
But if I were to combine the best of the mirrorless it would be:
Fuji's X-Pro1 sensor (not it's not a Sony sensor)
A similar EVF to the NEX 7
A larger form factor than the NEX 7 (which doesn't fit my hands well)....the x100 form factor works
Looks like this is exactly what the X-E1 is...

When did RFF become DPReview?
I love the broad brush statements and sweeping generalizations being made within this thread. I think I'm going to have to break out that Stephen Colbert popcorn Gif again soon

Not exactly, with no focus peaking and P&S grade contrast detect AF, X-E1 is not even close to Nex-7.
I didn't say it was close to the NEX 7, did I? All I said was to take an EVF similar to the 7's.
How have you tested the X-E1 AF so quickly?

So you know they haven't implemented peaking? Also, some P&S cameras are super fast.

Right under our very noses Fuji has created a serious line of cameras. All in a span of 2 years. Bravo!

Yes, Akiva, it's impressive. I wonder how much influence the x-100 emphasis on traditional control dials has had on recent camera, like the OM-D. Possibly the answer is none, since the OM-D would have been in development already, but I like to see this approach turn into a trend!

Not everyone needs focus peaking.
The new af improvement in the sept 18 release no one as tested outside of places like dpreview and they seem to agree it has helped the camera. The new lenses starting with the zoom have a better af motor which also improves the af performance.. Only time will tell if the SW update alone is good enough for people. But if history is any indication Fuji listens, as a x100 owner who stayed with the x100, Fuji has continued to improve the handling of the camera and the xp1 looks like no different... They will continue to provide SW improvements!!!!
