Hanoi viewed through Leica M

We have arrived in Hanoi for the second time, again for one more night before we go to Ha Long Bay, then finish with two full days in Hanoi.

This is a truly amazing, magical country. I feel like I haven’t shot enough rolls but we do have six days to go so chance for a few more. I’m not a street photographer by any means so not sure how much I’ll be able to contribute to this thread but we shall see.

Shooting no medium format is new for me but I didn’t want the added weight. I’ve shot mainly colour with just one roll of B&W so far. We will head to the night market this evening so will shoot either B&W them or try another roll of Cinestill.

you're always welcome to share photos here
great that more and more people coming to vietnam and found it interesting.

Reviving this thread a little bit, sorry for longtime no update.

I’ve almost finished my visit to Hanoi (and surrounding area) and will be developing about 20 rolls when I get home. Is it ok if I share work from my SWC/M and MX? Unfortunately my M2 is away getting serviced so didn’t come on this trip...

that would me more fANTASTIC!
Looking forward to see photos soon once you developed your films.

I've finally managed to work my way through the rolls from our Vietnam trip. Thanks very much to everyone here you gave some tips!

We ended up starting and finishing in Hanoi, and doing a loop down to Tam Cốc/Tràng An and Mai Châu in between. We enjoyed everywhere but the highlights were probably Mai Châu, where we had a wonderful homestay host (the host and my wife both speak Cantonese, so that probably helped), and Hoàn Kiếm, the Hanoi Old Quarter. I come from a quiet corner of the world, and I've always enjoyed the chaos of big Asian cities :)

I shot most of the trip with a Pentax MX, Tmax400 and a SMC-M 28/f2 and SMC-K 85/f1.8. I also had the SWC/M loaded with Portra400 but didn't shoot it much.

I'll slowly start posting the shots here over the next little while. Hope you enjoy!

As an aside, it was really interesting to see how many young Vietnamese people in Hanoi were using film. Pretty much all the regular Japanese brands were represented (Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Olympus, Konica, Minolta etc...) as well as a bunch of FSU stuff.

There was even a street side exhibition in Hoàn Kiếm from a local film shooters collective.

Local with an OM-something

yes, you got correct impression.
local film labs are booming here along with the revival of film shooting.
i hope that the currently increased film price would not affect the film community that much.
good to know that you enjoyed the trip to Vietnam. As your agenda indicated, I think that there's a bog chance that you will return here. Pretty much other fantastic places that were not in your list.
Please share more photos here.
Thank you.

The winning moment - Vietnam scores during a World Cup qualifier against Malaysia (my Malaysian wife was less than impressed).
