Well, I finally got a set up I like. It's taken a while, but this is the line up:

12/5.6 Super Wide Heliar
21/2.8 Elmarit-M
28/1.9 Ultron
35/1.7 Ultron
50/1.5 Nokton.

- an it all fits into a tiny Crumpler bag, with batts etc :)

I can't really afford all Leica yet, so this is the compromise, but to all these lenses seem pretty damn good, and they all focus OK.

I've replaced the (absurd) hoods on the 28 and 50, partly 'cos I think they're useless on the R-D1, and I hate the curved lens caps, that wobble when you put the lens down! The new ones are the excellent Heliopan metal tele hoods. Beautifully made in Germany.

Pics attached of the new Nokton (hee hee :D ) and it's little sister, the 28 Ultron, with their new skirts on.

Very nice set!!! Not so many Leicas needed:D
I am dreaming of the 28 Ultron...

I bought the Billingham Hadley Original because my Crumpler Geekstar was a little bit to big. Which Crumpler model do you use?

It's called Bens Pizza XL. I'll probably get a Billingham eventually, as the Crumplers have velcro, which makes them noisy to open. No use at a wedding ;)

that's not too much hood for the 28 to use without vignetting?

Anyhow nice rig! More than a little envious of that 21/2.8

Surprisingly, neither hood vignettes. The 28's a normal lens on this camera, and the 50's a short tele, so they're perfect.

Sean's original review of the R-D1 said, if you only get one Leica lens, get the 21, and I tried the CV and the Avenon (Kobalux), and it turned out he was right :)

What did you think of the Kobalux? I have the the type I in chrome which I use all the time. The only problem is it does backfocus 3 or 4 inches a@ 1 meter which is rarely a practical problem because of the huge DOF, It does bug me however. Since you have the Leica also, I'm curious if you found it to be significently better. At a couple of grand more, I certainly hope so. On the other hand, I use the 21mm so much that the best quality possible might be worth ducets.

I wish someone would make an F2.0

Rex, I liked th Kobalux - mine was an unused old stock from Japan - nice ergonomics and good IQ. Also had the back-focus prolem.

I got a used pre-asph Elmarit for around $1k, and the difference is definitely visible, especially wide open, which I often use for IR. I'm very satisfied with this lens, but would look at the Zeiss if buying new. Below is an IR shot from my last trip to New Zealand.
