Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! As an Aussie I haven't grown up celebrating this holiday (this is only my 3rd in the country), but I must say that the warmth & generosity of the families that have 'adopted' me for the day and welcomed me as their own is overwhealming... Today I am having a somewhat unorthodox feast of crab with some good friends followed by watching the football & a good cigar. My only job is the potatoes & I've decided on a spinach & sour cream mash that should go over well...I hope you all have a great day & remember to take some photo's!

Apple pies are my appointed domain. And mashed potatoes (the magic is in lots of real butter, and lots of real heavy cream...no one seems to know that 🙂 ). Oh, and I get to choose the wine, some of which I am already enjoying.

A hearty Happy Thanksgiving to all, hope you have a terrific time with friends, family and loved ones.

For our friends outside of the US, it is our traditional American day of gathering with family to celebrate, well, family and camaraderie. Usually with a turkey dinner, some sort of potato creation, and gelatinous cranberry sauce. I know, gelatinous doesn't sound appetizing, but trust me, it is essential 😉

I arrived to the USA in 1981 just before Thanksgiving Day. My roommate at that time suggested that we "catch a goose". He took me to the local Duck Pond at Virginia Tech, and we chased the geese, but I kept on thinking "this can't be legal"! We did not catch any goose, and we ate turkey at some restaurant instead.

That's a great story. Much much better than my "we couldn't find any turkey, so they prepared lutefisk" story; that happened a few years after me having moved to this part of the Universe called the US Midwest. 😉

(btw, we're having Duck, after having seen the price of Pheasant 😱 ; we wanted to try something other than turkey for today -- we're leaving turkey for Christmas)

That's a great story. Much much better than my "we couldn't find any turkey, so they prepared lutefisk" story; that happened a few years after me having moved to this part of the Universe called the US Midwest. 😉

I'm one of the rare non Scandinavians who likes lutefisk Swedish style in a white sauce, with boiled potatoes having lived in Sweden for seven years.
But I still prefer turkey for Thanksgiving.
Speaking of catching a goose, several summers ago in Warrensburg, NY where I spend the summer my wife saw two guys drive up to the little park on the Schroon River where the town keeps some geese and try to capture one. The goose went for the guy's most precious assets below his waist and he ended up running for his life much to my wife's amusement.

we had canadian thanksgiving in october so today is just thursday for most canadians.
i had to work and drive in wonderful snow on very slick, icy roads, not fun.

but i do wish all my former fellow countryfolk a wonderful day, a wonderful meal and warmth of being around those you love and who love you.

We had turkey, stuffing, twice-baked potatoes, peas, squash, gravy and cranberry sauce and red & white wine. Then either mince or pumpkin pie with ice cream. My oldest kid called from Fiji and my sister is here from Dublin. What an awesome day!
