Hello all I just purchased a R-D1 for my trip to Asia due to it's compactness compared to an SLR. Can anyone recommend a good hard case for the Rd-1? Thanks in advance.

I think the original case by Epson would be the hardest. But for top notch quality Luigi and Mr Zou are the way to go.

If you have a Kiev RF case from the 1970s (the black ones) lying around, they may fit the RD-1s. Mine did, in a case which used to hold a 1976 Kiev 4. The tripod bolt in the case and the nut on the camera may not line up though.

Thanks for the input guys. The R-D1 will be stored in my pack most of the time when I'm en route to my destination so a full hard case would be most optimal. I was able to find a Full case by Luigi but it is very pricey (~400 USD) Unless I can find an alternative the original Epson case is probably the best bet I'd assume.

Luigi offers a less expensive version, which I got and actually like better than his premium one. The premium one is too squared off.

I have the original Epson case when I store my camera in a normal backpack. Works great and a lot cheaper than most other options in the market.

Cheers,

Can anyone direct me at a picture of what the original case looks like? I'm pretty sure my first Rd1 that I just purchase on ebay does not include this original case - I'd love to pick one up. I've got only 10 days to find and purchase a case for my trip with this baby, any help/guidance appreciated!

Can someone tell me if body + Voigtlander 28mmF1.9/F2 + hood would fit in that original Epson case?
Thanks.

While I like the idea of a hard case, they are too restricting for any accessories. I would love to be able to carry it in a hard case but I cannot imagine using it without the grip. Instead I use a case made by Maxpedition. The model is called Toadstool. I use it for my R-D1 as well as my M8 often with the CV 35 1.2 mounted and sometimes an extra lens like my 90mm Elmar. It is very rugged and water resistant. It has a pocket for accessories and plenty of attachment options. I've been caught in a monsoon while hiking to some pyramids in Mexico and had no issues. I also have a North Face climbers camera bag that works really well too. It has the addition of a waist strap so that the camera and case stay close to your body. I am going to add this feature to the Maxpedition case as well. The Maxpedition is also nice when traveling. I use it to hold maps, hotel keys, travel guide, etc...etc.

Thanks cs123 for the quick guidance. I'm sorry that I didnt find that myself _ i'm not sure where I went wrong with my searches in ebay.

Lightwriter - happen to have a model # or a link to the specific max edition you like?

I was thinking some of the same thoughts. I was looking at Luigi's custom full leather case - but I'm really wondering how practical this is. Italian leather? Is this just because you want to protect your baby or does everyone find it worth the 400 dollar price tag for a full case?

I'm thinking of grabbing a half case from luigi for "comfort and protection while shooting" and then picking up an overall protective bag/case like the one your talking about.
