Hi all, I m from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Been trying hard to source for one enlarger for my darkroom. None are available in my country at the moment. Efforts to look for one on ebay is tough too. Any ideas where else I can source for one?

Really? Is it because no one wants to ship to KL?
I see lots of enlargers available, even the rare and heavy Focomat IIc's.
Quick ebay search reveals 1100 items in "Darkroom enlarger".
Are you looking for a specific model?

That is difficult. I lived in Japan and it could be hard to find sellers on ebay willing to ship internationally. I did get new equipment from places like B&H Photo in the US and Robert White in the UK.
Did you place a wanted ad in your country? Folks might not list an enlarger just because they don't think anyone wants one.

There is a magazine published in Australia called "Photographic Trader". It is not available on line but only by shop purchase. However, it contains extensive lists of second hand photographic equipment for sale and also "Want To Buy" advertisements. You might like to consider this avenue of enquiry. The publisher can be reached at <cole@phototrader.com.au>

Seems like there is quite a substantial film shooting community in Singapore. Do you know anyone there who can help?

Maybe you can find some resources here:

A quick search seems to show lots happening in your country.

I've got one you can have for shipping and a little handlein/packing costs.
The only trouble is, it's in Texas and will cost, USPS Priority, about $100.00 US. I can't get an estimate from UPS without more information.
PM me if you want more info. Also look at my 'RFF stuff" set on flickr. It works, has a lens nd handles 35 and 120mm.

If you have a spare 50mm lens you may think of building one yourself
HOWEVER the offer of Ducky is great!

Ducks, that's a right courteous offer. Maybe this place is not only about GAS and ego. Beyond, you could do a lot worse.

Darkroom printing lives

beyond, try building contact with your local professional photographers, the older the better.
One of them will know who prints for photographers in the area in the past. This printer's studio will have many enlargers, probably for sale today.
In a city as big as Kuala Lumpur, I think there would be at least several of printer studios like this.

Maybe a nearby school has closed their film lab and gone to digi. it's worth a few phone calls.

The international shipping fee may be horrible.
Last year I bought an enlarger from an American ebay seller. He shipped to my address in Taiwan and the shipping cost is almost 200-250 USD...
I also suggest you ask local high school or old camera store. You might get a great used item with surprised price.

Agreed. The cost of international shipping can be pretty scary.
Ok. Someone local offered me a Meopta opemus 6 that comes with 2 lens. Is this a good unit for BW printing?

US might not be a good idea if power voltage and timers are a hassle

The Meopta Opemus 6 should be fine for you, if in working condition. I have used Meopta enlargers for many decades, now accompanied by a De Vere for larger formats.
If you need negative carriers or lens-mount rings etc. (ie. small and easy to post spares) then you can get them from FotoImpex in Germany, and probably other places too.

The Meopta should do fine for BW. The stuff is forgiving and once you have the basics mastered, a touch here and there is all you'll need.
Good luck with it.
Think maybe I'll set my Vivitar up again. . .naagh, the wife will throw me out.
