LOL, I knew it! rough use? :D :D :D Why don`t they write in the manual to use it only at the weekend only in the casual park? :D funny, well now after this reply I will push them more! well ofcourse I will not send my camera anywere! and specialy in germany! for 10 days! NO WAY!

Some dispointing that they didn't mention a 85mm lens at all. Neither did they show any strong interest on what happened on this ZI:D

On the other hand,I think their response is reasonable that you can't expect them do much before they have a close check by themselves and locate the problem.

BTW, Nachkebia. I just visit your album. The india pics are so impressive. Amazing.

Thank you roundg, well they can check anything by themselves but I am not sending my camera for two week just for them to check if coating was on, rough use.... heh it is funny... anyhow maybe I will send them money compensation because I actualy used camera for two weeks and not for two weekends...

Sounds to me like they are willing to evaluate it to see if it qualifies for warranty coverage. That seems fair.

They certainly did reply promptly.

Why not send it to them after you get your M7 back from DAG? The M7 should cover your photogaphy needs while Zeiss is evaluating your ZI>

It is quite obvious that even though you used the camera for only two weeks you beat the hell out of it
Wrong, I agree on everything else, except there reply should not start with complaining how bad I used my camera, I was taking care of camera as much as I could, I was cleaning it every end of the day, I always had brash and lens cleaning cloth with me and frequantly cleaning it, did never hit anything with camera, never fall down :D

I did not abuse it, you can think whatever you like, and I am not planing of persuing anyone of anything, I used it as casual as I have used my Nikon F65, F6 and D200, I can post some images they are as mint as possible....

Seriously though, it always warms me up to see a well-used camera instead of a "weekend queen" :)
- This is indeed what we see. Carl Zeiss has nothing to be ashamed of, - nor the user of this camera, - Nachkeiba.

I have both a black ZI and a Canon 1Ds II. After two years use the latter looks like a scratched up cross motor cycle, - the ZI, after 6 months, still like a shiny Corvette. I can't see that a black ZI has a particularly weak surface paint and structure. Rather the oposite. I find the finish of the black ZI to be both strong and durable. That strong and durable cameras can and will look scratched up after eager use is not news to anyone. Nor the Leica people.

(Since the IDs II is the only digital camera I have available I have no posibility to show pictures of 'how it looks')

just as a point of information...even though my schedule permits mostly weekend shooting...i am not a weekend queen and neither is my camera.

thank you very much :)

joe: I'm wiping the coffee off the monitor right now ... :D

Personally, I think Vlad's camera is an exception, that there was something amiss with that particular sample.

So Tom is bragging about how he tortures his equipmetn and he concludes just the opposite. Doh!

Besides, why would Tom be better then any other serious user? Vlad's cam shows serious issues and Zeiss better step to the Bat.

Vlad, I'd send them the camera and I'd expect nothing less then a brand new camera. They can keep this one and test it to death. As far as I know, they've just opened the door to you.

- I can't see that I am bragging. Just informing. Nor do I think that I am better than any other serious user. Whatever that is.

- No. Vlad's camera shows typical signs of 'wear and tear' after hefty unbaby'ed use. This is not signs of a faulty surface or a potential reject.

Come on Joe, you know it wasn't about you.. when you leave your camera home in fear of getting it scratched, then am worried :)

i'm starting to think of using domke wraps over my half case covered camera with only a heavily filtered lens sticking out.
it's soooo much safer that way!!

;)

I have to say, I think that Nachkebia's camera looks like something is going on under the paint surface, a corrosive chemical reaction in magnesium alloy perhaps. The bubbling seems to indicate this. Perhaps this is also compromising how the leatherette is attached to the camera. It will be interesting to see what Zeiss says when you get it back to them next year.

BTW If I look through my Zeiss 25 biogon with bright light behind, I clearly see bunch of small bubbles in the middle of the lens, I should send it to zeiss too?

I don't know about modern lens manufacturing, but in the past bubbles have not been a concern at all. Given the performance of the ZM 25, I'd say that's about right. ;) Have you seen anything in your results to give you concern?
