I phoned today Harry, my friend who repairs traditionals cameras, here in Santiago Chile. We have a strange relationship, fot the last 2 years, I have phoned him every 2 or more weeks, but haven't met in all this time...
I asked him about reparations in course (Vitessa L and other stuff), and then whe talk about his experience in photography, more than 50 years as repair man.
He started working in a extinct shop and technical service, where he bought a Voigtlander Vito Cd, and a few years later he acquired a Bessamatic, and then a Canon FTd, Nikon F, and Oly OM1, and then started his own business.
He said: "After Vito, photos were good, but none as my Vito. What I've seen in my experience is that the best camera is the human eye, it has fixed natural measures, given by the human evolution, and is the lens that adjust to focus, so for me it's perfect. With rangefinder cameras the distance between lens and film is very similar to the human eye, so it gives a special characteristic to a rangefinder cameras".
I said: "I agree with you Harry"...
What do you think? Have you heard this theory?

I disagree that the special characteristic to a rangefinder camera is the similar distance between lens and film, and the human eye. If that were the case then a smaller format like APS or Minox would be more appropriate because the film size and retina area are even more similar. This argument is way off base IMO, but interesting to discuss nonetheless.
