I have a beautiful black Luigi case with the sewn-in cut out portion on the back so that it can be cut to fit the Thumbs Up grip. I'm thinking about doing this because I like the grip I get with the Thumbs Up but I also like the protection the Luigi case provides. Has anyone attempted this? How did you do it and were you happy with the result? Any cautions? Thanks in advance, Bob in Michigan.

Yeah. I had a leather shop in Burlington do it though. Very happy with the results. I have been using cases on my M cameras for the past year and I like the feel they give.

I'm sure he'd (Luigi) do it for you if you don't find someone local.

I have no experience with cutting out a Luigi case for Thumb up, but I did cut out a half case for M7 to fit it to a M8. I used a thin blade cutter knife. The result was... I wouldn't do it again

Had a cobbler do mine. Works fine. Looks good.

I cut mine to fit a thumb's up. The key is to run a very sharp razor blade along the edge you intend to cut before cutting into the neat of the case. Establish the line you want to cut, switch to a fresh blade, then do it again until you're through.
I found it pretty easy, but I went through about 5 razor blades.

Thanks for the responses so far. I did find some good info on getdpi about it. The main consensus is to have a shoe repairman do the work. I worked in my grandpa's shoe repair shop about 45 years ago, wish I still had the tools and talent. I think I might give the exacto knife with new blades a try. Bob.

one very easy way to get a feel for it is to cut the portion of leather above the line that you'll ultimately cut. there is a large, 1/2" section that gets cut out to accommodate the thumb's up, so you can use it to practice.
good luck.

I took it to a local shoe repair shop and had them cut out the small patch and sew it up. Very cheap and works well.

I ordered mine with the cut already there from Luigi. I figured if I don't like the thumbs up, then its not a huge draw back. I never take the thumbs up off now, unless I have to use the hotshoe for strobes. The case is awesome with the thumbs up. Very secure combination for grip.
