I was gonna mention a Dutch photographer that traveled along with a documentary film crew.....but I forgot his name....which kinda beats the purpose of posting this. Buzzardkid posted a link to his R-D1 work a few months back. He's not famous but at least he's known.

It was a dead end design anyway. You either comit to something or you dont. I am not exactly sure what Epson was up to with a hardly advertised, overpriced, super-niche camera.

I´ve seen evidence of it being used professionally, but not exactly prolifically. Had the VF alignment issues been solved it would no doubt have seen more use and abuse as a pro tool. The up-side is that they are now available for us enthusiasts at a third (or less) of what the sold for initially.

David Alan Harvey used it briefly and wrote about it for American Photo - he liked some things about it but not others. Also featured on the Digital Journalist website:

No, sorry, I haven't used it.

The best camera is one that still works!
HCB would have ... unfortunately the camera arrived a little late for him but as a digital it would have to have been his prefered choice IMO.

I know of a Newsweek photographer who was using two of them for a short time. This was about seven years ago. Nick Ut had one also.
