Has anyone gone back to DSLRs after using Fujis?

If you like a camera, you're more likely to enjoy using it, and perhaps make more of an effort to use it. That may result in you getting photos you prefer.

As much as the thing about camera not mattering is true (regarding making someone better at photography), when it comes to ergonomics and comfort, thegman's quote rings true for those of us not immune to these things (and those of use who are not pros not requiring specific gear for a job).

I think a lot of people have said it already. I feel like I have all the bases covered with a D600 AND the X-Pro1. What you don't get from one, you can get with the other. On one hand, you get a full-frame DSLR and all the aforementioned benefits that come with it (you can't really get the look of a 105mm f/2 anywhere else, for example), and on the other hand, you have an extremely capable, light system you can take anywhere, with a fantastic set of lenses that will keep you fresh and won't wear you out if you decide to bring a few with you. I love having options 😀

Hmmmm???

Sounds an awful lot like having both a wife and a mistress. What ever happened to loyalty and exclusivity?

Altough I love the Fuji to death it's just not fast enough compared to my 5D2. For streetphotgraphy the shutterlag can be to long. Even with manual focus. For my wedding work it is the same thing. Not fast enough. It's a pity. I'dlove to dithc the Canon's and go Fuji all the way. Lets hope the second version of the Fujis will be fast enough for me.

I gotta agree. As much as I like the X-Pro1 there are still a few things that I just cant get use to with this camera. I guess I got so use to how I setup my 5D3 that I tried to have similar setups with the XP1 that I felt a bit disappointed. One thing that I wish Fuji did was have back button focus or let us set the AE-L/AF-L button as a focusing button because I truly hate the half shutter focus and shoot and I wish we were able to set the FN button to allow us to use it as the AF point selection rather than having to use two hands to reach it all the way on the bottom left corner. Besides that I like the camera and carry it with me often but at the same time I still carry my 5D3 with either a 14L II at the time until I get my 24L II back and a 50L. I hope fuji can do this in an upcoming update. At times I ask myself if I should keep my XP1 or sell it with the 18mm and 35mm and invest it back into some canon lenses.

x100 with canon and leica

x100 with canon and leica

When i got the x100 I got super excited, but about 2 weeks of use I just wasn't that into it. Always kept my 5DII for paid work, it just works better.

Eventually got a m8 and i have been loving that ever since. I found it much more of a job to use than the x100, but m8 is not so useful in low light. 5DII is always for paid work. It is just that good.

I've thought about ditching the 5DII and most of my L lenses and go X-Pro 1 with the 14mm and 35mm lens, however the AF on the X-Pro1 is not there yet to what DSLRs can do.

even the X100s is not there yet (although the OMD is but I don't like EVF) so right now I'm just waiting to see how the X-Pro 2 turns out but for now I'm keeping my 5DII for portraits and landscape

What about renting the x100s? Is the new phase/contrast af system fast enough? The xp2, I would hope will be at least as good, if not better. Lol. The 18-55 zoom is a bit faster then any of the other lenses but not sure if it is faster than the x100s since I don't have one.

If u need dslr af speed for what u shoot, right now Fuji is not it. I have never gotten rid of my dslr, but it gets used increasingly less and less.

I kept the dslr for tele, macro work and for situations where I needed faster af. I recently acquired a Olympus omd to handle the tele and macro work. The af seems fast enough that te Nikon dslr has not been used much since.

Whatever digital camera I have used, from the X100, OMD, RD-1 etc, picking up my D700 has always been an eye opener. Suddenly I'm holding a camera that can genuinely do anything comfortably that the others 'manage' to do and no more!

Pity about the weight! 🙂

I feel the same way. I have an older 7D that I use when I have the space for a larger camera, and it's night and day. I love my rangefinders and other cameras, and I use them a lot more (because I can bring them everywhere), but if you've got enough space and it's ok to have an SLR, they really are fantastic cameras. I forget every once in a while, and it's nice to go back.

However, as many others have said, SLRs are great tools but I really like using my RFs and MF cameras. I don't buy them to "replace" an SLR.

I've actually been thinking about that. I sold my DSLR kit, but I'm thinking buying into a different DSLR system. I could trade in my Fuji X-E1 + lenses for a Fuji X100s.

I had an x100 for 2 years, and had the x-pro1 and all 3 lenses on loan from fuji Aus for a few weeks.

I loved the x-pro1, but in the end something that gets me everytime is sensor size. I really like a full sized sensor over the aps-c one. I bought a 5d3, and it's a really really good camera. It feels like a digital version of the 1v. Canon files, while not as good as the sony sensor cameras for lifting shadows 5 stops (and ridiculous stuff like that), have the best skin tones and overall neutral color balance. I also love the canon lenses. The setup is pretty compact with the 40mm pancake - and not really any bigger than the x-pro1 - although it is a lot heavier.

Down the track I'll probably buy the x-pro though - when you use it, it really makes you feel good. It's my ultimate form for a camera. Maybe I should just buy an m9. Meh.

I have a 5D Mark II (wishing for a 6D or Mark III for that silent shutter among other things). Full-frame makes all the difference for me. Tried my friend's X-Pro1 but there's always something about it that bugs me. I really wish I had a Full-Frame Leica as well, but that is life. Having a larger camera has never gotten in the way of me taking photographs on the street though.

I can tell you that my photog-friends are all envious about the "silent" shutter of my 5D 😀 That's a nice improvement.

I like the low weight of the X-E1 and also the controls. It's a great instrument. However, the autofocus feels like that of a point & shoot. I missed many shots of birds, monkeys, and other animals while the camera was trying to focus. The quality is poorer also, but I expected that given the sensor size. So I'm mostly back to 5DII & 6D and waiting to see if the Fujis get better.

Today marks the first time I ever used a Fuji Camera for a professional shoot.

I brought my D700 but it never left my bag!
Also, shockingly I shot 1,600 shots on a single charge! (Fuji X-E1)

I use my DSLR kit for pro gigs - anything where I need very fast & accurate autofocus.

While I love my Fuji, I'm actually selling my X-Pro1 & 35mm (see classifieds if interested) as more and more the distribution of my photography is skewed towards professional work vs personal. As such, I'm trying to downsize to one digital system (DSLR) for professional work, and my Leica M4-P + 50mm Summicron for personal.

Loved the weight / quality of the Fuji gear, but the usability (controls) and autofocus leave a bit to be desired compared with a DSLR & I can't justify having $$ locked up in another system.

I've actually been tossing around the idea of going back to DSLRs (unfortunately for me, it is either or). My vision has been getting pretty bad and MF on the XP1 is just too much work. I might give the XE1 a try, we'll see...maybe I should just jump ship and revisit when they have better ways to focus.

Not sure I understand why u would go back to dslr. My eyesight is so bad that I an not use any slr in manual focus mode.. Only af.

The mf feature of the xp1 or xe1 is pretty easy for me due to the mag feature.. When in mf mode. The only issue that I c is xp1 has no adjustable diopter, u need to physical change the existing one w/ a specific one.
