Has anyone heard anything out of Sherry Krauter in the last 2 weeks?

Don's had a camera and lens of mine since June 4th or so. Still haven't heard anything since him emailing me to confirm he received the items.

Luckily I picked up a new body (+backup) and a backup lens of the same focal length, so there's no hurry.

I just thought that with 4 billion + posts, that this type of question would have been asked and answered for you by now. One can only infer from your situation what you tell us.

Follow-up: I went home yesterday and opened up the box, and I am so happy that I was patient. Sherry did a great job and my M6 is fresh and exhibits a level of precision that makes me feel like I own a brand new camera. The MP finder upgrade is a big improvement BTW. Very-very smooth.

I had to call Sherry several times, but it was the spam blocker at work that made e-mail unreliable. My camera's work was done over a week ago, right on schedule, but I never got the bill to be able to make payment for Sherry to ship.

Every time I was able to get Sherry on the line she was personable and that also was clearly displayed in the work she performed, but also realize that she has more work than she needs and is very-very busy.

Good luck. Any delay is worth the wait BTW IMHO.

I also had another great experience with Harry Fleenor getting my Rollei 3.5F overhauled and a screen upgrade.

Hi everyone,

I apologize in advance if this thread seems redundant, but I wanted to know if anyone has dealt with Sherry at Golden Touch in the past 6 months and what the wait period has been for repairs?

I recently bought a 'BGN' condition M3 DS here on RFF, and after running a couple test rolls through it, I determined a CLA was in order.

After examining the repair alternatives, I decided on Sherry, due to her (mostly) stellar reputation. I sent her an email, and she responded with her usual boilerplate generic email.

I gingerly packed up my beautiful M3 and sent it off to Purgatory Road. Well, a month passed and I didn't hear anything. Did she receive it? Was it lost in the postal system? Was it in purgatory on Purgatory Road?

I called Sherry tonight (in the evening, as all the posts say to do) and between mouthfuls of food, she said "oh yeah! The M3, I know what you're talking about. It's next on my list." When pressed, she wouldn't elaborate on a timeline, except to say she'll email an invoice when she's done. And she told me how to pay her.

She chewed a good-bye and hung up.

So what's been everyone's experience lately?

Any anecdotes / info might help me sleep a bit better.

pick up the phone she works late in to the night, reparing all those old film cameras we all use. I have always had luck on the phone in late eve east coast time.

I hope you use tracked ensured shipping, but I agree that a quick "got it" email would be a nice touch.

How long turnaround time did she promise before you sent it off to her?
 
My experience is that Sherry always turns things around within her promised timeframe, which is typically three weeks. If she needs to order a part, that adds time.
 
A gentle response to the above posts:

1. Sherry's initial email was a generic message -- from what I can tell, she sends this email to most if not all inquiries about CLA's, etc.

The text of the email states a 3 week turnaround, but from what I've been reading lately that is highly unlikely.

2. As I mentioned in my previous post, I actually DID pick up the phone and speak with her this evening ... she was courteous but seemingly vague about details (turn-around times, cost, etc.) -- so that's the core of my concern.

3. She DID confirm that she received the camera I sent her, and said that "it's next one her list" ... but a simple estimate of turn-around time would have been nice. A month? Three months? I just want to know.

I'm not saying that I am faulting her, but seriously -- couldn't she have a bit more organization to her business model? All I would like is an estimate of price and an estimate of repair time.

Turn around times are usually around 3 weeks or so. She is quite busy so don't be worried that you didn't get a direct answer you were looking for. I don't think you should be worried about it.

Her work is worth the wait as most people on here already know from experience.
 
It's always an anxious wait, isn't it? I've sent my M4 off to Sherry earlier this month: she signed for receipt on the 8th, and now I'm waiting for an email to tell me it's time to send payment. Hopefully mine is the one in front of Robert's. 🙂

Last time I was there the mail was delivered and he sorted the queue for repair by the postmark. He gets 5 or 6 boxes a day and he had roughly 8-10 cameras waiting for a CLA with their paperwork. Then he has lenses too, and his eBay store. These people are seriously busy, Youxin told me he works past midnight most nights.

If you want communication use a tech who will provide it. The last time I sent stuff to DAG was years ago; three lenses and a body disappeared into a black hole then suddenly appeared on my doorstep without warning. Now I use Steve Choi for lenses and Youxin Ye for bodies; both are good communicators with quick turnaround and both do excellent work.
 
Bobby, I had a similar experience. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

The best way to know your package has arrived someplace is to pay for delivery verification.
 
Another vote of confidence (and thanks) to Youxin Ye. Both an M2 body and a Canon RF lens were received, repaired and returned in 7 days each. Excellent responsiveness, too. I'm still trying to figure out if Sherry Krauter's Lenses For Sale page is functional, or some kind of digital monument to a gauzy distant past.
 
Sherry took about a month to get my M3 back. Given how hard I have been using it, I have to say she did a great job.

She is from the old school, where competent people never chirped "can I PLEASE help you?", but she has been nice enough when I got her on the phone. I will certainly send her work in the future if I need it.

An observation: People will spend a lot of money on equipment, but send it out the cheapest way possible. In a situation like this, always send USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation/Signature Required and Insured. With the tracking number, you'll be able to see a point by point trail of the camera on it's destination and when it was delivered/signed for. Pay enough return shipping to get the same shipping service that you sent the camera by - that way you can track it on return.
