Has anyone here gone JPEG only with their NEX-7?

I'm seriously tempted to try shooting JPEG only with my NEX-7 - I'm choking on the size of the RAW files, and would very much like to streamline my time spent on post.

I got in the habit of shooting RAW with my first serious digital camera, a Nikon D1 - the D1's JPEG engine was pretty bad, so RAW and converting in post was really the best way of getting good results.

I have a feeling that in camera JPEG engines have gotten much better - but are they to the point that you feel you can rely on them all the time? I see blog posts from people that have made the conscious decision to shoot all JPEG, but making the jump scares me.

What has your experience been?

I find the NEX-7 RAW files very easy to work with and would never consider changing to jpg.

The ONLY situation I would use jpg is in the studio where the lighting was completely under control. Even then, only for high volume work where pp would be impractical.

Why not start with shooting JPG+RAW combined for a while? Only process RAW files for which the JPGs are not OK. At that point you can throw away the RAW files.

Actually, that's what I've done since day one - but I've been pitching the in-camera JPEGs after I've backed up the RAW files on my PC.

Again, one of the main reasons I'm considering this is the mass of data I'm accumulating.

I shoot RAW. Hard drive is cheap. I also tend to toss the ones that I know that I won't use. Of course there is the hard drive and two separate RAID backups and one monthly backup that stays in a large fireproof safe.
