Has anyone seen this problem on a neg?

This was the first frame on the roll; a similar mark appeared, but less marked and closer to the left edge of the negative (top of the pic in portrait format) on the third frame. All other frames were ok. The outfit (Canon P with 50/1.8) has never showed any signs of light leaks on previous rolls.

I'm thinking possibly something in my handling of the film during developing or loading it into the tank? Or maybe a light leak in the felt seal on the film cassette? It was a bulk-loaded roll.

At first look It looks like flare of sorts but this normally looks like secondary light splodges or curved highlight lines. A dark mark on the filter would not show up light o rules that out. A smear on the filter would glow in certain lightling conditions (and apertures) but not all. Have a look at the filter

This also could be a possible handling problem, maybe from the loading as well. Has the neg got a slight crease? Also there is a blemish in the sky above the light mark that hints at handling problems.

Thanks Fred. No filter on the lens that day, and I did use a good lens hood, too. And I shot several high-angle photos, inviting flare, and that just wasn't a problem at all.

Maybe hoot is right. But I'm starting to be fairly confident that its a light leak at the felt light trap on the film cassette - the clincher is that the mark is repeated, albeit lighter, on the third neg, at a spacing from the first mark which equates with the circumference of the film on the roll. I'm not sure if it was this roll, but I can remember having trouble getting a roll started in the camera, and having to remove the roll and re-fit it. Maybe that flexed the felt light seal material a bit and let some light in. Thanks for the input!
