My OM 2 did some crazy dance on me yesterday.

I finished a roll and rewound, placed in a new film, closed the door and began to advance ...the first advance went as usual but then the shutter locked up.
The advance lever would continue to wind on but still no shutter firing.
I wound on to about 12 frames, re-wound leaving a leader out, opened door, started the film again and.... all is behaving normal.

Is this a low battery issue? Any clues from OM gurus?

The shutter is battery dependent. Always use SR44s. The mirror & shutter will lock up if the battery is weak. Put in some fresh ones. If the mirror is up and the shutter is locked, press the "RESET" button at the lower left corner of the body mount, and rotate the manual shutter speed ring until the reset mark (*) is aligned with the red triangle on the lens mount. Then the mirror comes down, and the shutter is unlocked.

maybe the battery cap has some grease in the groves. Unscrew it, take a cotton pad soaked slightly with alcohol and rub it against the groves of both the body and the cap, one after the other. This solved my OM-4Ti issue (very similar in that the mirror and shutter just locked up. I had to change to a mechanical shutter speed to get it going again).

If the OM-2 is fired on auto with the lens cap on, the shutter will stay open and you can keep winding the film. Annoying, but not a defect. Just remove cap, open to large f stop or load with the camera set to manual. John
