Hi,
I have had an RB67 S for a long time, and have not used it with much frequency. I would like to shoot more with it now. I obtained a motorized 6X7 back for it several years ago, used it once and it worked fine. I tried to use it yesterday and ran into a problem. The first thing to know is that I now know I was using batteries that had low charges. When I loaded the back and it automatically wound to the first frame the "1" was not centered in the frame counter window, and there was still quite a bit of the red "not ready" flag on the right side of the window. When I tried to shoot the first frame the shutter did not operate. I adjusted both the revolving adapter and another control on the back, the shutter fired, but the back did not advance the film to Frame 2.
I suspected the batteries were to blame and I replaced them with fresh top-brand batteries this morning. I also opened the back, took out the film and rewound it, planning to reload the back and to fire the shutter at the highest speed and smallest aperture with the lens capped until about Frame 4. I reloaded it, operated the on switch, pushed the start button and the film advanced and again the frame 1 number advanced only part way into the frame counter window. And the shutter would not operate, again. BTW, I made sure to pull out the dark slide on both attempts to fire the shutter. I have since removed the film from the back and reloaded it in a manual S back, and the camera operates normally with the non-motorized back, all the shutter and film advance interlocks work okay. When the motorized back is loaded and has advanced to frame 1, or partially advanced, I also cannot operate the back in simple manual mode, the winding knob is locked.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with an RB motorized back, and if so, what was the fix?
Thanks, Gerry
