I'll start. One of my photos was in the newspaper that was on sale yesterday. Today I heard people in my local cafe talking about it. Has anything similar happened to you?

congrats!

I've not had one very visibly published, but I did have a suprise exhibit once where I had originally been told that my photo didn't arrive in time to be entered in a group exhibit, then as I was driving by, I saw that they were using it in the front window of the gallery to announce the show.

Sold quite a few copies of it too...man I wish that gallery was still in business. I always sold something when I showed there.

I had two photo essays published in Shutterbug magazine in the mid 90's, and I have a few photos published as postcards in Japan and Korea through MEGA PRESS.

One of my photos - taken at a re-enactement of the Magenta battle of 1859 - was used as a cover page for a local magazine: no money, but what a pleasure to see it on the newsagent desk!

Congrats, too!

Some of my photos have been used by Non-Profit Organisations for flyers and posters and one sold to a garden magazine!

A photo of mine won a competition organized by the City Hall. Several months later I passed by the tourst information office and saw my photo on the wall. I had only gone to the tourist office to pick up a street map.

Me? The people in the cafe, who I know by sight but not to talk to, were saying things like "There's Jon Claremont, did you see his photo on the back page of the newspaper?" "Yes, it's good isn't it."

Wonderful stuff.

I have sold 6 of my photos (all made in my SLR days during vacation travel in Europe and Far East) though image agency in foreign country, some of these went for calenders, others for private office/home decorations.

2 books, 2 magazines and numerous newsletters...all obscure stuff.
My "biggest" thing is a 26 ft x 10 ft version of a pano shot I took of the desert/mountains. It's on display at a new home building site. Not published, but I think a few people will see it over the next 5 years.

2 rff books, 2 books of my own, 2-3 times in Gunu magazine (Mongolian magazine on art, culture and lit), several times in the ING Microfinance newsletter. And one photo of mine won the big rff contest last year. 🙂

dazedgonebye: I'd like to see a photo of that 26' x 10' in situ if you have one. Sounds impressive.

It just went up last month. I haven't seen it myself yet. Sounds like a family outing to me....

edited to add:

Here's a somewhat smaller version.

Nice one Jon.

I've never offered anything for publication, although friends in bands have used my images on their CD sleeves a couple of times. I'm thinking about trying to get some stuff exhibited this year.

dazegonebye: That is stunning onscreen, and must be a million times better 26 foot wide. When I look at it I'm thinking Ansel Adams even when I know that it's Steve/dazegonebye.

Jon,
Excellent! I've not been published other than in the last RFF book but I sure enjoyed the reactions of folks who saw that. And one person wanted a print of on of my photos in that to hang on the wall in his business.
I think it's great that the photo is strong enough to survive printing on newsprint and still look so good!

Congrats Jon.
Alentejo is something isn't it?!

Nope, never published anything (never try either), won some prizes on contests (nikonians and similar) but no big deal.
