Why are the ELM's so much cheaper than the CM?
Just curious....

Increased weight/bulk, and reliance on batteries, needing a battery adaptor.
No other good reason. I have a 500cm and a motorized elx. Both great cameras!
There is also a chance that a motorized body has has more film put through it and is likely to be more worn.

There are some great deals on them for sure!
Are they really that much heavier?

Not that much heavier. Body weights can be looked up on spec sheets.

They were mostly popular in studio and rental use, so they often are very worn.

The EL was really supplanted by the 503CW with winder, so there is a more modern solution than the EL out there. OTOH, the 500/501 are classics and the 501CM was the last of that line. I got one of the last 501CM's delivered new and love it.

The EL cameras are great and I've owned one but they are more awkward to use , noisy and heavier. Unless you're triggering it remotely there's little reason to use them. I much prefer the CM cameras. Matter of fact I recently sold my ELM.

I have two 500C/M's and two 500EL/M's. I can crank the 500C/M much faster than the EL/M can cycle.

The motorized Hasselblads are excellent for portraits. No need to move your eye from focusing screen in order to manually crank the film advance. It becomes an almost instant return mirror camera.

That's what they were made for...
