after receiving my new-looking Hasselblad 500C with a C12 back off eBay i quickly read the manual and rushed out the door to test it. like a complete idiot, it wasn't until i had finished the entire roll and dropped it off to be developed that i realized the Planar 80mm C lens had been on bulb the whole time...................

today i picked up my film convinced that the entire roll would be crap as on top of probably overexposing due to bulb i had used the Sunny 16 Rule for only the third time. upon looking at the photos i was pleasantly surprised that they weren't utter crap....! apart from the giant white blob across them all that is attractive only in a Holga-like way.

a few photos:

it's probably plain as day what the problem is, but i'm new at film photography. is the white a light leak? and if so, is it coming from the film back or the connection between the back & body....?

if it is a light leak from the film back, how easily can this be fixed? would it be better to just buy a new film back?

it should be noted that photos that i took in the shade did not have this white across the photos.

thanks a lot in advance for your help. 😱

I don't know for sure but could it be a light leak where the dark slide goes in? You might try covering it with black tape and shooting another roll. Those seals need replacement every so often and I think there are kits sold for that. Good Luck, Joe

I think this is light leak from the film back.

I bought the new light seal and fixed it easily done.

+1

I just did my three backs with seal kits I got from eBay. Easy (about five minutes each back), and you learn a bit more about the camera by doing it.

Your shots show classic light leak through the slot for the dark slide. If it is unloaded, take the slide and the insert out of the back, and hold the empty back up to a bright light, looking directly through the slot. You may need to adjust the angle of view slightly but you'll soon see the light...

I had a similar problem when my C/M first arrived. I ordered a set of the ebay seals and changed them. All was well. While I was waiting for them to arrive in the mail, I stuck some black electrical tape over the dark slide slot, and I was able to keep using the camera in the meantime.

Regards,
Brett
