Hasselblad repair -- worth it?

It is a CF 80mm F/2.8.

I believe the lens's higher shutter speed still works fine (1/60 and above). That makes the decision harder, since instead of repairing it or getting another used, I can also just avoid slow shutter speeds.

I mean ultimately the question comes down to whether or not you can afford it, i.e. how much of a dent it makes on your finances. $600 is a lot of money but that's more or less what a new CF lens seems to cost so it's a wash. And if your lens is in good condition otherwise I would agree with other posters who said it's better to have it repaired instead of taking your chances on a new one. Besides, if you have it repaired you will have done a little service for the photography community in keeping existing gear working.

As far as I know, the slower and faster shutterspeeds use different mechanisms so it makes sense that the faster ones still work fine. If you decide not to have it fixed and you want to use it without the slow shutterspeeds I guess you could try using an ND filter whenever you get in the problem zone so you can get the exposure into the zone where you can use bulb mode.

Have him repair the lens and pay the asking price. A common thread is the lack of talented technicians who can assess and repair. If we stop patronizing or fail to compensate them fairly for their skills, we have only ourselves to blame as the pool diminishes.

You have no idea the condition of springs and gears in another used one. My friends tell me they fail without warning.

Go for an Odess repair and it will outlast you.
